AI Portrait Guide
How to Take the Perfect AI Headshot Photo for LinkedIn, CV and Profiles
Great AI headshots start from a good original photo. If you follow a few simple rules for lighting, background, framing and expression, DawRoad can turn a single selfie into many professional portraits and avatars.
1. Use Bright, Soft Lighting
Stand facing a window during the daytime or in a bright room. Avoid harsh overhead lights that create strong shadows under the eyes or nose. Soft, even light helps our AI clearly see your facial features and produces cleaner, more flattering results.
- Avoid backlighting (a strong light source directly behind you).
- Make sure your face is brighter than the background.
- Wipe your camera lens so the image is not foggy.
2. Keep the Background Simple
A clean background makes it easier for the AI to focus on you, not the objects behind you. You don't need a studio — a plain wall, curtain or blurred room is usually enough.
- Avoid busy patterns, text or very strong colors behind you.
- Don't stand too close to the wall to avoid strong shadows.
- Make sure there is nothing "growing" out of your head (lamp, plant, etc.).
3. Frame From Chest or Shoulders Up
For AI headshots, a classic crop is from the chest or shoulders up, with your head centered in the frame. This gives enough detail for our AI portrait generator to preserve your unique features and create multiple compositions later.
- Hold the camera at eye level, not from a high or low angle.
- Leave a little space above your head instead of cutting it off.
- Don't stand too far away — your face should be clearly visible.
4. Show Your Real Face
To get accurate, realistic AI portraits, your selfie should show your natural face clearly. Avoid anything that heavily hides or changes your appearance.
- No sunglasses or heavy filters that distort your features.
- If you wear normal glasses daily, you can keep them on.
- Tie back very long hair if it covers most of your face.
5. Choose a Confident, Friendly Expression
Your expression will strongly influence the feeling of your AI headshots. For LinkedIn and professional use, a relaxed, confident, slightly smiling expression usually works best.
- Relax your shoulders and jaw; avoid tense or forced smiles.
- Look slightly above the camera if direct eye contact feels awkward.
- Think about a recent achievement or something you are proud of.
6. Upload to DawRoad and Let AI Do the Rest
Once you have a clean selfie that follows these guidelines, upload it to DawRoad, choose a style like LinkedIn Professional or K‑Pop Idol, and let our AI portrait generator create multiple polished results for you.
Remember, you only need to get the original photo right one time. After that, you can reuse it to generate many different AI headshots, avatars and creative portraits for all your social profiles.
